UV Tanning FAQs

Is using a tanning lotion really worth it?

Yes, absolutely.

Without a lotion, your skin won’t begin tanning until 6-7 minutes into your session. Lotion increases your exposure by 60% in the sun bed. They have been improving formulas to pamper your skin and counteract that dreaded orange!

Getting an exfoliation in before your session is recommended since it helps the tanning lotion to soak in better thus helping you to get a better all-around tan! Once your tanning session is completed, your skin is still tanning therefore it is ideal to wait a few hours after your session in order for you to reap the full benefits. Don’t forget a moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and tan glowing!

Should I wear sunscreen in tanning beds?

No.

When using a tanning bed, you should always stick with tanning lotions specifically made for tanning beds. Using sunscreen will defeat your purpose of using a tanning bed, and the oils from sunscreens actual reflect the light therefore making your effort to get color is a bust. The also can cause damage to the surface of the tanning bed itself. If causing sun damage is a worry for you we will be happy to create a safe yet effective regimen for you!

Should I wear tanning goggles in tanning beds?

Yes!

Even if you closed your eyes in the tanning bed, the rays can still penetrate your eyelids and cause major damage. The goggles may look silly, but they tend to be small with minimal coverage so it is not likely that they will cause you to have raccoon eyes. There are also new products out that we carry in store, one that even creates a natural contour.

Can I get a tan after one session?

Not necessarily.

Some lotions may give you instant color however that is all cosmetic. The actual skin needs a few tanning sessions to allow the skin to oxidize its melanin, darken and produce a tan. This process cannot be rushed. Your tan will begin to deepen within 3-5 sessions, depending upon the amount of melanin within your skin. Consider adding a custom airbrush to your uv sessions to achieve a darker appearance more quickly.

How often should I tan?

In order to build a tan, tan regularly.

Don’t let too much time go by between visits, or your tan will begin to fade. It is suggested that you wait 48 hours in between each session to allow your tan to fully develop in between visits.
